With a promised early May release expected, this early preview 2 (RTM) of Photoshop has some huge updates. Even though the name is still under mild testing, features like Lens Correction and Sharpen work might well prove to be transformative in places. That improvement follows immediate gains with the preview release (freeware) of the new Engine.
I tested the Ciello DNG converter as well as Gimp’s DNG converter based on Adobe’s samples. I think the results look nice but when I try to save the image as a DNG in Photoshop the file loses all information so it appears kind of random if you preview it in Photoshop there are still some artifacts from the image converter. Once saved directly to an AFA raw file is fine.

The DNG converter is very basic these days. DNG is here to stay whether we like it or not. The first colture converter enabled DNG but it was not RAW 2.0 compatible. Kept the RAW 1.0 file format. I don’t like all the RAW 2.0 stuff either and it seems to have been accelerated by Adobe with the discontinuation of Rawtherapee. Now the converter looks OK but I am just not sure how customers will react. Adobe kept the old look. They asked but they failed ? I love it now. I wish the document was much more detailed. The sequence of steps is not very intuitive. It would be nice if the developers took some feedback on the converter. It is very simple. A bit poor.
